*Olympics draining off charity funding.

The crisis in funding the voluntary sector in London, particularly the
arts, is highlighted in the announcement that Artsline, a cutting edge
disability arts organisation, is closing down.

Much of the crisis stems from the direction of funding in London towards
the Olympics at a huge cost to small charities and arts organisations.

Last week a meeting organised by the National Lottery for the voluntary
sector was told that funding for the whole sector nationally from the
Lottery will halve from 2009 to 2013. This may well be one of the worst
aspects of the Olympic 'legacy' for London.

An interesting post - it seems that a similar thing is happening within the third sector as has already taken place in the arts, money is being siphoned into the olympics. It remains to be seen what proportion of this money will head back to the sector once more detailed funding is announced? We have a blog over at http://olympiclegacy.wordpress.com/ that is running alongside a conference on the 2012 legacy- at the moment it is just conference details, but there will eventually be speaker presentations and debates on there...

An interesting post - it seems the same thing is happening within the third sector as has already happened in the arts. It reamins to be seen how much of this siphoned off money will come back again once detailed spending plans are announced for olympic funding. The problem is that these plans are some years away and that only causes insecurity...
